Hi all,

I want to extract some articles displayed on multiple pages. I tried to record a next button to request the next page. But number of articles and pages can vary. So there are always 10 articles displayed on each page. How to to walk through all pages without knowing the number on next access?

How to automate the click depending on available pages .. does anybody solved a similar task ?

Help is appreciated.

thx.

Hi,

just apply the 'next' link as step to follow to the next page. Copy the step and add it to task. Change the steps element action to 'output data' (German: Extrahierte Daten) and specify a validation rule that always fails which raises a 'Goto' the first step of your task again.
Thats all. When no further next Link exists, the link step can not be found and the task will stop. When found, the following step (copy) always jumps again to the step you specified to repeat the step sequence.

let me know, if this works for you.

Hello smergol,

yes, it works well when executing the task in test case mode only. When executing The step in default mode the step with the specified validation rule did not raise the goto. It seems that the validation rule does not fire. I entered a fail output, but it is not displayed somewhere.

But basically it works, all data are loaded into our database correctly.

Thank you !

Leaving the task with errors (Element not found) when 'next' link can not be found is no suitable way to exit the task when running it as test case. When testing this functionality the test state is failed due to this error.
To prevent raising errors add the body tag element as step before the navigation step and validate, whether the next button is included within the bodys HTML. If not, this step can stop the task.

To use validation rules in default navigation mode, just activate validation during navigation in validation definition dialog. Because this validation is a normal navigation process decision without intention to raise failures, also disable 'fail' output checkbox to prevent raising a failure.

enjoy.
